ADMISSION

Admission to Ahlia University is selective based on academic achievement regardless of race, colour, gender, religion, nationality, sect or disabilities. The most qualified candidates will be selected to fill the available places. Admission is considered for both undergraduate and postgraduate studies.

ADMISSION TO THE UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM

To be eligible for consideration for admission at the undergraduate level, an applicant should hold a recognized secondary school certificate. The requirements for admission stated by the university are in all cases the minimum demanded for admission and their fulfilment by a candidate does not automatically ensure his /her selection. Candidates are selected from the most promising of the eligible applicants and up to the limits of available space determined by the university. Prior to enrolling in Ahlia University, citizens of non-GCC States should secure residence permits in the Kingdom of Bahrain; otherwise, their admission, granted conditionally, is subject to being rescinded at the discretion of the University.

Prior to registration in a degree programme, students admitted must demonstrate a level of English proficiency consistent with the demands of a programme carried on almost exclusively in the English language. This can be done in one of the following ways:

  1. Submission of an internationally recognised certificate of English language proficiency (e.g. Cambridge ESOL SCE or Pittman Intermediate Level)

  2. Attainment of an acceptable score on an international recognised examination of English language proficiency [typically on either TOEFL or IELTS]

  3. Passing the university English language exemption exam.

 RECOGNIZED SECONDARY CERTIFICATES

  1. Bahraini Higher Secondary Certificate (Tawjihia) in the following streams: Literary, Scientific and Commercial

  2. Secondary school leaving certificates awarded by private secondary schools in Bahrain provided such certificates are recognized by the Ministry of Education in Bahrain and are based on 12 year of schooling as of the first grade elementary.

  3. Arab Secondary School Certificates awarded by Arab Ministries of Education. Where applicable, the streams of these certificates are given the same consideration as the Bahraini Tawjihia.

  4. Pakistan Higher Secondary School Certificate Part Two. The required subjects are the same as in GCSE disregarding the levels.

  5. The Higher Indian Secondary School Certificate.GCSE, GCE, and IGSE holders:
    'A' Level: Mathematics and English
'O' Level: Statistics and any other two subjects.

  6. International Baccalaureate:
    Higher level: Two subjects
Subsidiary: Three subjects other than those passed at the higher level. The choice of subjects is similar to the subjects specified under GCSE.

  7. Any other secondary school certificate recognized by the Bahrain Ministry of
    Education.

 TRANSFER ADMISSION

Candidates transferring from a recognized institution of higher education are eligible for consideration for admission subject to the following conditions:

  1. Successful completion of one or more semesters in a recognized institution of higher education.

  2. Satisfaction of the English language proficiency requirements.

  3. Submission of official transcripts detailing the courses studied at the prior institution along with the syllabi and descriptions of the courses for which transfer of credits is sought.

Transfer applicants, attempting to transfer credit from the University of Bahrain, may be given transfer credits for courses required in their new programme if they have obtained no less than a D grade in those courses. Transfer applicants, attempting to transfer credit from the Bahrain Training Institute, may be given transfer credits for courses required in their new programme if they have obtained no less than a B grade in those courses. Transfer applicants, attempting to transfer credit from any other university, may be given transfer credits for courses required in their new programme if they have obtained no less than a C grade in those courses.

ORIENTATION PROGRAMME AND REAPPLICATION

The Orientation Programme is a one-semester programme offered to full-time students who intend to pursue their education in their respective colleges at Ahlia University. The Programme aims to help students develop proper study habits and skills and to better prepare themselves for the initiation of their university work. The programme consists of a core of two subjects, English and Mathematics. Those who fail an orientation course are given one and only one chance to pass it in the following semester; otherwise, they will have to reapply for the coming academic year.

EXEMPTION EXAMS

The university administers exemption exams in English language and Mathematics. Students who pass these exams are exempted from the orientation programme.

ADMISSION TO POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMME

  1. A student must normally have a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in a discipline accepted by the university, with a minimum GPA of 2.5 out of 4.00 or its equivalent.

  2. A personal interview may be required when deemed appropriate.

  3. There may be prerequisites for courses in the Master's programmes, which an applicant must satisfy after registering for any programme, in which case, the admission granted will be provisional until such time as the prerequisites are satisfied. Prerequisites which are not part of the Master's degree programme will not carry credit towards the Master's degree.
